One Room – yeah. This didn’t work. If you want to do first person perspective then do it consistantly please. One of the comments on Crunchyroll was talking about it being like watching a friend play an eroge. Replace “eroge” with “dating sim” (and not a very good one at that) and that seems broadly accurate. Except that a dating sim would have the main character’s lines in there, even if not actually spoken. First drop of the year.

Gabriel DropOut looks like a great series but that OP is actually painful to listen to.

Kemono Friends seems to be another case of a series exceeding my expectations. Before watching I was thinking “why the hell is this not a short?” After watching the first episode I have my answer. You couldn’t do a series like this with a short, and I prefer this to whatever a short of this thing would have ended up being.

Demi-chan wa Kataritai – this feels like a nice feel good series.

Joshiraku is a series I had been intending to watch for ages but didn’t as the subs are variable to awful. As a result I was watching it mostly just in Japanese with no subtitles, which was a much better experience. I have wanted to buy the manga at some point for a long time as well, and perhaps this will give me the motivation to do so. I wonder how different the manga is to the anime version…

Yokuwakaranai Gendaimahou – wakaranai rather than wakaru on account of the fact that, despite the stupid but amusing segments at the end, it never really makes sense. And there seem to be rather few abilities used for something that should have near-limitless potential. I’m going to assume that it’s a case of “anime adaptation didn’t pull it off well” either because it couldn’t or because it just didn’t, rather than assuming that the source was bad, but assumption it will stay as this has given me no desire to read the novels at all.

Winter 2017 watching intentions

After a season in which I didn’t do this, I’ve brought it back. This season is the first in quite a while with fewer than 50 anime in total, and less than half of those are ones I intend to watch. Nevertheless there’s plenty there and it really just means that I’m more likely to actually try everything in the “will try” section.

Note: parts of this were written up almost a month ago. I’ve checked back over most of the anime that I intend to try but some may be out of date.
