Re:Zero – Awesome series. Not much more needs to be said than that. Gripping and exciting throughout. I’ve already said that I’ll be picking up the novels in English and see no reason to change those plans. I periodically go into the local Waterstones to see if the volume has magically appeared on their shelves but in reality it will be at the end of the month that I get hold of them.

New Game – Good comedy, interesting concept executed well, and decent characters. What’s not to like? Manga Time Kirara strikes again. Will pick up the manga. Eventually.

Fudanshi Koukou Seikatsu – so I was undervaluing this on the series rankings. Largely because I actually found myself sad that the series was ending, which was kind of surprising.

Kono Bijutsubu ni wa Mondai ga Aru – a reasonably fun series but nothing overly special. I probably wouldn’t start buying the manga from the anime, but I already have it so…

Rewrite – well, that’s one way to end a series… Overall a fairly variable series. At times it was almost uncomfortable to watch, whilst at others it was almost compelling. Apparently there’s more coming (somehow), and I’ll watch it when it does.

ReLIFE – Mmm mm. Loved that ending. Good series, too. I want more.

Onara Gorou was a bit of a surprise, in that I was expecting it to be awful, but it turned out to be mildly entertaining, with a couple of brilliant episodes offsetting the couple of episodes that actually were drudgery.

All in all not an overly appealing season, although a couple of series definitely stand out as exceptions. And I never got around to watching some stuff that were actually some of the more promising ones. So perhaps it’s all my fault. Then again there were series that were better than expected, although mostly in the sense of being enjoyable rather than droppable.

I’m not really sure what to think about that Alderamin episode. I don’t know whether to think it great or to hate it. Or both at the same time…

I’m gradually losing interest in Naria Girls. It doesn’t seem as weird any more, and thus not as funny.

Saiki had its best episode yet this week. Though the next one kind of spoiled it a bit.

Actually getting into Rewrite and it’s much better later than the early episodes. I guess that’s par for the course for this sort of thing.

Orange is devoting far too much attention to football to my liking. The first half of that second episode (yes, I know I’m way behind on it) was bad enough that it prevented me from truly appreciating the much better second half. More of that and the series is dropped.

Rewrite feels kind of stale. But I hope there’ll be more to it in the later episodes.

A succession of good episodes from Saiki Kusuo recently is nice. Great stuff from Alderamin, KonoBi and Amanchu as well.

Regalia: The Three Sacred Stars has been removed from the list due to being pushed back a season.

Mob Psycho – there are a lot of psychic type series airing right now, and there can be little doubt that this is the weakest of them. Thus I have no desire to continue watching it.

Episode 5 of Onara Gorou was possibly the best single episode of the new series this season I’ve watched so far. Other than the lacklustre 2nd episode that series has been a real pleasant surprise so far. That said, Amanchu! is running away with the season overall. And Hishiro Chizuru from ReLIFE is the best character so far.

I’ve lost interest in Bananya. Not that I ever had much to begin with.

Saiki Kusuo seems extremely erratic. Some of the little stories are great, others make me wonder why I bother to watch.

Mahou Shoujo? Naria Girls – seems they’re going with a similar format to Tesabu… only this doesn’t work so well.

Ange Vierge – put on hold until an uncensored version appears. There’s just too much censoring there to bear to watch.

Berserk was even less enjoyable than expected, and in a season where nothing has impressed yet but at the same time few things have really been bad enough to consider dropping early, this becomes the first casualty of the season.

Weekly watching roundup – Summer 2016 week 1

Not watched much this week, and won’t watch much next week either. In fact the entire season could be a bit like that. Which is why I’m actually kind of glad that it looks like it will be a relatively weak season. I wonder how many series I will actually finish… Heck, I wonder how many series I will actually start…

Summer 2016 watching intentions

13 fewer anime starting this season than in Spring. A slightly higher proportion that I will watch but nevertheless the season looks considerably less appealing to me than the last was. Good thing there are a couple of continuing series as well, then. And there are at least a few things that should be good, including some sequels to some decent series.
