The list below is the POS ranking March (NOT April – it’s my fault this is so late this time). The rankings cover the top 500 sellers of all books during the month, but those given below are just the light novels on the list. This is why there are many gaps in the rankings. There are no sales figures given for this data, and the data set is different from the one Oricon uses, which explains differences in the rankings. It has the advantage, though, of reporting much lower ranks than Oricon does.

Restarting the POS Bunsho rankings

Back in April the Shoseki blog stopped publishing Bunsho rankings after the Kumamoto earthquake, which obviously meant that I couldn’t post them on this site any more. In Octember I started to post the Bunko ranks instead, starting with March’s rankings, which I then intended to catch up with and continue posting.instead of the Bunsho rankings.

But there were two things that mean that this is no longer the plan.

For one, the process is absurdly time consuming. There are almost twice as many light novels on the bunko ranking as there are on the bunsho ones, which, combined with the fact that the titles that appear tend to be relatively obscure ones, means that the whole process can take about 8 hours of solid work. Just for one blog post. Sure, it means more data, but the rankings actually become less meaningful, provide less value, and miss out big sellers that aren’t in bunko format.

Secondly, though, the bunsho rankings started back up shortly after I made that first post. This thus makes it possible to restart the bunsho rankings and thus there is no need to catch up with the bunko ones.

However, the bunsho rankings have not filled in the missing weeks – instead they start back up from October. Thus this is where I will start posting them from as well. This then leaves a gap from April to September, and I will gradually continue posting the bunko ranks to fill in this gap. But there is no longer the need to catch up, and the priority will be the Bunsho rankings from here onwards.

The bunsho rankings for October are all ready to post, and will be up on here tomorrow. The ones for November came out a couple of days ago and should be posted at some point either next week or the week after.

The labels included will be stabilised from here onwards as the same as those in the bunko rankings plus various non-bunko labels, rather than the somewhat haphazard approach I took previously. Read more to see the list if interested.

Regarding monthly LN sales rankings for April.

The Oricon rankings have been available for some time now, and I am fully aware of this. Other things have taken priority over the last few days, but I will post this up sometime before the end of this week.

Shoseki has stopped posting the bunsho rankings since the Kumamoto earthquake, with the last set of data being for week commencing 11th April, and had a message edited in saying announcing the pause and saying that it would be resumed.

The POS monthly bunko rankings were posted today, but I have decided to not post these. Instead I will wait for the bunsho rankings to be posted. If there is no sign of a return after a reasonable period of time, I will switch to these instead (as I have done on the MAL threads for weekly rankings already). Bear in mind if I do so that any light novel series that is not a bunko format release will not be included.

Incidentally, the LNDB sales thread will not be updated again until early June. This is entirely due to my personal priorities.

Light novel POS ranks for March 2016

Figures in brackets after the volume titles indicate last months rankings if applicable. RE indicates a reentry onto the rankings (For simplicity’s sake, things that were released before last month that are showing up on the rankings are shown as “RE” even if they have never ranked before). If a volume is new or came out in a previous month but has not ranked before then no figure is given.

The list below is the POS ranking for March. The rankings cover the top 500 sellers of all books during the month, but those given below are just the light novels on the list*. This is why there are many gaps in the rankings. There are no sales figures given for this data, and the data set is different from the one Oricon uses, which explains differences in the rankings. It has the advantage, though, of reporting much lower ranks than Oricon does.

Bear in mind that, unlike Oricon, POS rankings use the calendar month for the monthly rankings data.
